We extend a very warm welcome to all of you. It is a great honour that your Annual Lions Clubs International Convention is taking place for the first time in Germany and that you have chosen to hold it in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

More than 23.000 members from over 130 countries will breathe life into your slogan „Meet friends in Hamburg“. Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany. It has more bridges than Venice and almost as many diplomatic representations as New York City. The Port of Hamburg is our „Gateway to the World“, and in a theatre on the shores of the Elbe River, the musical „The Lion King“ has been running successfully for more than ten years.

„Do good things and talk about it“ is a German saying. Many of the wealthy in Hamburg donate money, found charities, and help to support those who are less fortunate – as you Lions generously do all over the world – and so you will feel at home in Hamburg, a city with an open-minded spirit and a noble heart.
